Disclaimer and legal notice
The short version: TermVisa helps you spot problems early. It does not tell you what to do on a real shipment. Please read the points below — they are written in plain language on purpose.
Last updated
1. Information only — not advice
Everything on TermVisa is general information for education and early planning. It is not legal, customs, tax, trade-compliance or insurance advice, and it is not tailored to your goods, your contract or your situation.
2. No professional relationship
Reading this site, using the route tool or writing to us does not create a lawyer-client relationship or any advisory, broker, agency or consulting relationship between you and TermVisa or its editor.
3. Country rules change
Customs, tax and licensing rules change often, sometimes overnight. Our country notes may be incomplete, simplified or out of date even when they show a recent 'last checked' date. That date only means we looked at the cited source on that day; it does not guarantee the rule is still the same today, or that we found every rule that applies to you. Items marked 'Needs review' or 'Unverified' have not been confirmed against an official source.
4. Check before you act
Before you quote, sign, ship or pay, confirm the points that matter to you with the people responsible for them:
- your freight forwarder and your carrier (transport, delivery point, documents);
- a licensed customs broker and the official customs and tax authorities of the countries involved (clearance, importer of record, duties, VAT/GST, licences);
- your cargo insurer (cover, insured value, who holds the policy);
- a lawyer, for the contract itself and any dispute.
5. Your contract governs — and the Incoterms® rules only if you incorporate them
What binds you is the contract you sign with the other party. The Incoterms® rules are a set of trade terms published by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). They apply only when the parties incorporate them into their contract, and you should always name the edition, for example "CIP Lagos Incoterms® 2020". If the contract says something different, or names no edition, the outcome can differ from what you read here. Local law may also override parts of a contract.
TermVisa describes country rules in its own words and does not reproduce the official rules. For the official text, see ICC's Incoterms® rules page and the official Incoterms® 2020 publication.
6. No warranty and limits on liability
The site is provided "as is". We work hard to be accurate, but we make no promise that the content is complete, correct, current or fit for your purpose. To the fullest extent the law allows, TermVisa and its editor are not liable for any loss or damage — including delays, seized or refused goods, duties, taxes, penalties, lost profits or claims from third parties — arising from the use of, or reliance on, this site. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions; in that case they apply only as far as permitted.
7. Links, sources and sponsored listings
We link to official and third-party websites so you can check the source yourself. We do not control those sites and a link is not an endorsement. Sponsored listings and sponsor slots are always labelled as sponsored; they never change a country's status or text, and they are not a recommendation. Choose any service provider on your own assessment.
8. Independence from ICC and trademark notice
TermVisa is an independent publication. It is not affiliated with, authorised, sponsored or endorsed by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) or any government. Incoterms® and the Incoterms® 2020 logo are trademarks of ICC; their use here does not imply association with, approval of or sponsorship by ICC. The Incoterms® rules are protected by copyright owned by ICC.
9. Report an error
If you spot a mistake, an outdated rule or a broken source, please tell us and include a link to the official source. We check every report and log confirmed changes in the changelog.
